Teeny House Bunny + FREE stuff

by cheapchica11 on September 1, 2010

Words cannot describe how freaking cute this collection is! I just found it and like I do with all good things, I must now share it with you!

Teeny Bunny House is the brainchild of three southern girls (I knew there was a reason I loved them!) from the Savannah College of Art and Design who now make each and every one of our pieces by hand in their tiny Garment District studio in NYC. All of their materials are locally sourced and the best part, everything retails for under $100!!

Their Saucer earrings and Initial Frame necklace are truly unique pieces you would only find at some amazing market and then run home to tell all of your friends about.  They have such a kitschy, quirky, vintage quality about their designs and that’s what I love most about the collection!

I loved it so much that I wanted one of you to have your very own initial necklace so I asked the girls if they would sponsor a giveaway and they said yes!

To enter to win– all you have to do is follow us both on Twitter: @cheapchicas and @teenyhousebunny (just click the links and then click follow) and then send me a tweet with what letter you want in your necklace if you win!

You could choose your name, your BF’s initial or you could even give the necklace away as a gift to your Mom or BFF!  Good Luck!

PS: They also have a super-cute blog worth checking out: http://teenyhousebunny.com/blog/

NOTE: This is only open to US residents.  Winner will be notified via TWITTER on 9/8.

Rack To Reality: Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure

by Monica on August 29, 2010

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Nail Polish: $7.00

Click It/Skip it: Click it!

I saw this product in InStyle and I had to try this one! The beauty department at InStyle always has great tips on new beauty products, and I am so glad I tried this one!

With 42 colors to choose from this nail polish is a must have for every season. The product claims to be a 5 in 1…growth treatment, nail strengthener, base coat, color, top coat and on top of all that its quick drying!

Fit: This polish really does live up to its claims. The 5 in 1 totally makes a difference and your nails will have that salon shine with just a few coats. The only slight disappointment…while it is quicker drying than most nail polishes (a few minutes for total dryness) its not as instant as I expected..oh well!

Still, this is a must have beauty buy! I wore it for a week before it began to chip. Plus, the brush is A-MAZING…its over-sized for more coverage and a quicker coat. However, make sure you have a steady hand…not much room for error.

Shopper’s Notes: Aren’t we are always looking to save time in our beauty routines? This polish will last longer than your typical drug store polish but will look just as great as salon brands like OPI and Essie. And $7 is much cheaper than a manicure…not to metnion buying a separate top coat, top coat, quick dry and a nail strengthener!

You can find a list of online retailers here or just check out the makeup aisle at your local drug store, grocery store, or beauty emporium. I listed the price as $7.00 but if you’re lucky you may be able to find a deal and pick up multiples.

If you’ve tried this out already, what are your favorite colors?….I picked up “All Fired Up” for now and “Pat on the Black” which is strikingly similar to OPI’s notorious “Lincoln Park After Dark” for fall.

Transition It!: Military Jacket

by Molly on August 26, 2010

If you buy only one thing this year make it a military/utility jacket or vest. It is something that can be worn every which way and in almost every season. The twill fabric makes an ideal transition piece because it covers up while breathing, which is perfect for spring and late summer. You will have a blast dressing this jacket up and down. The khaki/pine green color is a must this fall.

You never want to go overboard with the military clothing. Don’t wear a camouflage studded shirt, army green cargo pants topped with a utility jacket. This is a sure way to be categorized as a fashion causality. Mix and match it with different textures, fabrics, and colors.

For the work day match a wool patterned pencil skirt, simple blouse or knit top and a cardigan, topped with a skinny colorful belt around he utility jacket. If you’re looking for a more casual weekend look I would wear a military inspired jacket with my favorite air of boyfriend jeans rolled at the ankles, lose fitted tee and a pair of nude/neutral colored heels.

While we are in the last weeks of summer wear this jacket with your favorite sun dress and a pair of moto boots or sandals depending on the weather.

Cheap or Chic: Faux Foxtails

by Leah on August 15, 2010

This was a second take for me. I had to look and then look again. And to be honest I’m still up in the air with this one… But I’ve been seeing it more and more, so I had to give it a shout out!

This slightly bizarre accessory trend has been picking up speed in Hollywood as seen here with Victoria Beckham. She sported her Louis Vuitton Messenger Bag ($2,640) and Foxtail Charm ($1,120) as she strolled through the airport. Personally, I would only sport a faux foxtail and I definitely cannot spend over $1000 on furry tail accessory!!! So I attempted to find some reasonable faux foxtails to clip onto my (not Louis Vuitton) messenger bag…

This online boutique, La Dama, offers up this faux foxtail for $42. I love that it’s a clip on because it would look great with several of my bags. I also prefer the white over Louis Vuitton’s colored tails, too. White is much more versatile.

I knew one place that would be sure to have some foxtails would be Etsy. This shop carries a faux red and white clip on foxtail for $38. Pretty cute!

I found real foxtails for much cheaper – but I love animals and I am willing to shell out a couple more bucks for the fake foxtail!! What do you think of the furry foxtail trend…cheap or chic?!

Transition IT!: Boyfriend Cardigan

by Molly on August 12, 2010

I have to admit that my favorite piece of clothing in my closet is my Boyfriend Cardigan. Those who know me would attest to that, considering how much I wear it. So, the one thing exciting me about the brisk nights ahead is that I get to take my sweater out of hiding.

The Boyfriend Sweater is the perfect Transition Piece! When you are sitting on the beach in late August until 6 pm and that chill from the water starts to hit you, a light-weight, over-sized  sweater is the best thing to be able to pull out of your beach bag.

You can utilize a light-weight sweater almost all year long,  especially if  you work in an office that is air-conditioned.  I prefer to buy my boyfriend cardigans at least two sizes too big because, oddly enough, I think the over-sized look is more flattering.

If you are worried about looking sloppy because the sweater is too big, put a cute belt around the waist and roll up the sleeves. This trick turns a sweater from comfy casual to put-together cool.

But, if you’re like me and don’t want to dish out $89.50 for the cardigan above from J. CrewLOFT has one that’s just as cute for about half the price… and if you wait for one of their amazing sales, you can probably get it for way less!

These are my favorite for transition purposes because they are so light weight they are a little translucent. Buy them fast before they all go out of stock.  If they do, no worries, there are plenty of other places selling great inexpensive cardigans. H&M is another place that sells some of the best cardigans at fabulous prices.

It’s one of those must have items that you need in multiple basic colors. So find your favorite kind and buy it in three colors to get you through the entire season!

Transition IT!: Long Sleeved Lace Mini Dress

by Molly on August 5, 2010

Fall is creeping around the corner, but I’m not ready to start thinking about it before it’s here. Which means I’m definitely not ready to start shopping for my fall wardrobe when it’s 90 Degrees outside. It has always been my biggest pet peeve when stores start selling winter coats before I’m out of my bikini! But Practical is my middle name, so I understand that people don’t want to spend money on an outfit that they’ll wear once before it’s packed away for a year. If you’re like me and are not ready to leave your beach chair but want to update your wardrobe, then shopping for transitional season items is the key!

The look that I’m obsessed with right now it the long sleeved lace mini! This dress from ASOS is a perfect mix between classic and hippie. It can go either way depending on how you style it.

For summer it’s the perfect date night dress, just match it with a pair of heals, pearl earrings, a cocktail ring and put your hair up. You won’t be able to help feeling sophisticated but so sexy. Or you could pair it with sandals and a fadora to bring it down a notch.

When it’s starts getting chillier outside that’s when you can really have fun styling this dress. It would make a great office look if you just throw on a light weight military jacket or black blazer, some dark stockings and your favorite pair of boots. But if you’re more interested in that hippie look match it with a denim or suede fringe vest, a pair of earth tone stocking, and a pair of oxford shoes with plenty of bangles and necklaces.

You really can’t go wrong with this purchase because it can go every which way. I prefer the dress in a cream color because I think it gives more versatility, but I have seen it in lots of different colors that look great if your not a cream kind of girl. Either way you will definitely get your moneys worth through all 4 seasons!

Tropical Punch

by Ann on May 14, 2010

oliviapalermonailsandne

Nowadays, come Tuesday night I am firmly planted in front of MTV. I watch The Hills mostly to feel smart and like I have my life together but The City, now that’s a good show.

I shamefully replay episodes On Demand just to get outfit ideas. But, hello, why isn’t Olivia given the boot? I mean seriously, Joe, why?

Well, I think we all know why, the girl has “an eye” for style. She is clearly not afraid to throw any social punches but what I actually love most about her style right now is how she incorporates a tropical punch of nail color with almost any outfit.

The aesthetic of bold tropical colors kind of embodies her style; it is girly without being too girly and sophisticated with a little more playfulness than your average red.

Picture 2The color is not so much new, like the lavender and taupe seen this spring, but that it can be used as a sort of unexpected accessory. The pop of color with an otherwise complete outfit gives this old fashioned color a modern twist.

Honestly, Olivia’s budget must be endless but the nails are one thing about her that is easy to emulate on the cheap!! The first time I wore this Revlon color, Hot Tamale, I seriously didn’t think I would last more than a day with it on. But I love it and it strangely goes with almost anything!!  I have found my summer alternative to dark nails…I am a total convert.

Pucker-Up

by Lauren on May 9, 2010

Picture 9Yay!! I’m soooo happy that it’s finally Spring outside which means its time to invest in some new makeup. I like to keep my make up really soft and simple in the Spring and when it comes to lips, I prefer using only a lip gloss instead of a flat shade of lipstick.

So you can imagine how excited I was when I found this AMAZING deal on lipglosses from Clinique at Sephora!

And check this out, it’s only $25 for 12 different shades! Not too mention they’re the perfect size for “on-the-go” and you can even get this Summer Floral Clutch for FREE! Just enter code FLORALBAG at checkout.

Fashion On-The-Go

by cheapchica11 on May 1, 2010

teaser_1 I feel like I’m always living out of some tote bag or a rolling suitcase trying to get from point A to point B with all of the things I need and trust me, that’s a whole lot of things for this girl!  An extra pair (or several sometimes!) of shoes, my make up bag, a curling iron and several outfit changes are just part of my daily arsenal!!

A lot of my time is spent commuting to NYC for work and when I’m home, a lot of my time is spent driving from shoot to shoot with countless outfit options in tow.  And while hanging them in the back of my car works just fine for the trip, my dear friend Julie and I were just discussing how much nicer it would be to have a lightweight, portable garment bag in which to store all of our fabulous clothes!

Now I wasn’t looking for a travel garment bag that’s super heavy duty, I just wanted something to put my clothes in during transport from my closet to whereever…that wasn’t a plastic dry cleaning bag (so UN-eco friendly!) and not some freebie from a department store.

Well I searched high and low and I finally found one that’s both fashionable and functional…meet Jendarling (pronounced Jen-dah-ling) Bags!  Her adorable collection of garment bags are just the right size for a quick weekend getaway and portable enough that you can load them up and still jump on a train/bus to your final destination.

Picture 3Most of her styles cost over $100, which I consider a tad out of my price range, but there is one in an adorable Ikat print that’s currently on sale for $87 plus you get a matching shoe bag FREE with your purchase!!  With these bags, you can bet your clothes will arrive in style!

And if you’re just looking for a great bag to take your clothes to/from the dry cleaner, check out these Green Garmento 3-in-1 bags for just $9.99…and you can help do your part to minimize all of the plastic in our landfills by saying NO to those plastic dry cleaning bags!

Deal of the Week: Spring Blazer

by cheapchica11 on April 22, 2010

Picture 3Ahhhh….blazers!   I can’t get enough of them!  If you look in my closet, I literally have 30 of them all grouped together in all different colors, cuts and fabrics and that’s for a very good reason–I’m a lazy dresser sometimes and a blazer is an easy way to look dressed when you’re really just wearing a white V-neck and jeans!

One of the only things I’ll miss about cooler temperatures is having to retire my little jackets, but stores like J.Crew and in this case, Forever 21 have wised up and they’re started to roll out light weight blazers that are just the thing for Spring!

This baby blue blazer is exactly the kind of jacket that will look good with everything–from skirts (how cute is the styling in this pic), white pants, jeans and even with shorts!  And for less than $25 it’s my Deal of the Week!

The F.A.B. Report: Faceted Stone Jewelry

by Jean on April 17, 2010

Picture 2

Girls… you have so many options with this trend! Initially, I thought I would narrow it down to either rings or necklaces, or bracelets… but I just couldn’t. As I was searching for options I told myself: since when is there a trend that is this broad and this accessible at a variety of price points?

Faceted stone jewelry: it’s everywhere, and in every form. Take your pick! I love this trend teamed up with everyone’s favorite, the statement necklace, like this truly show-stopping Austrian crystal piece above from Max & Chloeon sale for $60.00.

If you’re looking for a cheaper options, fear not! You can find faceted stone goodies everywhere from Forever 21 and J.Crew (Crew is offering up some gorgeous, classy bracelets, and a LOT of them, most marked down: the one below will only set you back $24.99!) to… well, the runways.

Picture 1

I’ve found a bundle of cute options for you below, in all forms… all around $40.00 and many under $20.00! If you really want to buy on a budget when it comes to this trend, I’d recommend going with a ring. Asos has several fun options (some below), most of which are in and around $10.00 or $20.00.

Another one of my favorite buys is this ring from Aldo… for only $12.00!

Wondering what to wear with your faceted stone goodies? Whelp, that’s just as easy. Spruce up a casual ensemble with a bit of sparkle to add allure or rock an oversized piece with your favorite LBD for a chic, more sophisticated look. These pieces are incredibly versatile!

I have an amazing faceted necklace in white enamel that I’ll wear one day over a t-shirt, and the next with a mini-dress.  I mean, come on… how can you not love that?

Pure White Minis!!

by Lauren on April 12, 2010

image1xxlYay!! I cannot express how excited I am that Spring has finally arrived…thank goodness b/c I was so over winter!

2010 is blooming with new trends and amazing looks. But when it come to shopping for this Summer’s must-have dress opt for a pure white mini!

The white mini is one of the sexiest dresses you can own, and thought it might be a little hard to wear right at the start of Spring, it will look amazing on you one you have a little color! That being said, you’ll want to make sure you a glow (faux or real) before stepping out in your white dress.

When you’re shopping for white, here’s my rule of thumb: you want to look for a bright white instead of something that reads too milky/pasty, like this dress from ASOS that retails for $61.54.

56471463I love the sweetheart neckline and think the bow at the waistline is so cute… also remember to get the most out of your amazing white mini by keeping it short!

And if you’re on the fence about wearing this color, think of what white does for a bride…it always catches everyone’s attention…and who can forget how amazing Eva Mendez looked in her white dress at the Golden Globes…GORGE!

Here are some of my favorite picks under $100…enjoy!
